CMA Exam: Overview of the  Testing Windows

You’re given three separate testing windows each year to choose from. Here’s the breakdown:

January – February

May – June

September – October

What this means for you as a candidate is that you've got three full chances each year to conquer Part 1, Part 2, or both exams. Keep in mind that you can only take one part per window, so make your choice wisely.

With proper preparation and planning, you can complete both the CMA exams in as little as 8 months.

CMA Exam: Registration Deadlines

Each window comes with its own registration deadlines. Missing them is the academic equivalent of snoozing your alarm till the meeting starts. It’s advised that you always remember these, as they can help you plan your CMA exam better.

Testing Dates

When considering the actual CMA exam dates, there's no single universal date, and flexibility is the name of the game. Within each testing window, you can schedule your exam on any available date that works for you.

Part 1 and Part 2 of the exam can be taken during any of the three windows, and you can only take one part per window.

Remember: You must wait until your score is released before retaking the same part. So no, you can't take Part 1 in January and retake it in February if things don’t work out.

CMA Exam Score Release Dates

The CMA results are released about 6 weeks after the end of your exam month. This means, if you took the exam in February, for example, you can expect your results by mid-April.

How to Plan Your CMA Exam

Knowing the CMA exam schedule isn't just about avoiding any fear of missing out; it's about winning the long game. Here's how to use it to your advantage:

Plan strategically from your target exam date

It’s advised that you begin your preparations at least 3 months in advance before you take the exam to ensure adequate study time.

Avoid scheduling conflicts with major life events

Consider upcoming commitments, whether professional or personal, to help you safeguard your study schedule from unnecessary interruptions.

Consider starting with Part 1

Part 1 is generally regarded as more foundational, which can provide a stronger CMA foundation before you start tackling Part 2.

Allow contingency time for retakes

While trying to succeed on the first attempt is ideal, building in time for a potential second attempt ensures you remain on track.

Rescheduling and Cancellation Policies

You are permitted to reschedule or cancel your CMA exam; however, this must be done following the applicable policies and guidelines. Here's what you should know:

You can reschedule your exam through Prometric centers at least 72 hours before your appointment.

Cancellations must also be made at least 72 hours in advance.

Failure to attend the exam or making changes at the last minute will result in the forfeiture of your fees.

Note: Changing the date doesn't change the part of the exam. If you signed up for Part 1, you can't switch to Part 2 at the last minute.
